There is Hope

Sitting Can Become Pain-Free

Back pain from sitting can be incredibly frustrating. It negatively impacts your work and your home life. If you have already tired multiple treatments, it only makes it that much worse.

But it can be overcome. I have seen it occur time and time again.

In every case, addressing the strain causing the pain was the secret to a succesful outcome.

Our approach is about giving you the tools and knowledge you need to eliminate the strain causing your pain to restore pain-free sitting.

We help you understand:

  • What strain is causing your pain.

  • How to stop doing the things that make sitting bother your back.

  • How to start doing the things that help your back remain pain-free while sitting.

How It Works

This approach works because it addresses the most common cause of back pain from sitting: too much strain on your spine.

Your spine has a limited amount of strain that it can safely handle. Exceeding that limit results in back pain. While sitting, this limit can be exceeded because of how you sit, how long you sit, how often you sit, or a combination of all three.

What you do during the rest of  your day can either add to the strain caused by sitting or help offset it.

To overcome your back pain, you need to stop exceeding how much your spine can safely handle. This means you need to stop sitting in ways that irritate your back and make sure that the rest of your daily activities offset, rather than add to, the strain caused by sitting. In addition, you want to do things that will increase how much strain your spine can safely handle.

This approach works even if there are structural changes in your spine, such as a disc bulge or arthritis. These changes do not mean you have to live with pain forever. With the right approach, your back can adapt, even to these changes, and become pain-free.

The Process

Step 1: The Assessment

We start with a detailed assessment to find out what type of strain is causing your pain. This includes:

  • An in-depth conversation about your pain history and sitting habits.
  • An exam involving movement and posture tests to identify what triggers or relieves your symptoms.
  • Review of your imaging (such as MRIs or X-rays), if applicable.

The assessment takes about 2 hours.

Step 2: The Recovery Plan

You will receive a customized recovery plan that includes:

  • Specific instructions on how to sit and perform your other daily activities without irritating your back.
  • Specific exercises to help offset the strain from sitting and to help increase your spine’s tolerance.

We will go over the plan together so you understand exactly what to do, and why it matters.

Step 3: Ongoing Coaching & Support

You will be guided step-by-step through your plan. We will meet as needed to:

  • Fine-tune your postures and movements
  • Progress your exercises
  • Troubleshoot any challenges

The number of times we meet and how frequently we meet will depend on your needs and situation.

Dr. Wilbrink did a great job of assessing my back pain and coaching me through effective strategies toward eliminating it. His approach is thorough and he was able to think outside the box to adjust my rehab program to my unique challenges. He would be my first suggestion for anyone with back pain, I have consulted with other practitioners over the years but none have been as effective as Dr. Wilbrink.

Relief is Possible. Back Pain Can Be Overcome.

Hi, I’m Dr. Jared Wilbrink and I help people like you who feel like they’ve tried everything — but sitting still hurts.

I specialize in helping patients get to the root of their back pain using an evidence-based, personalized approach — no generic, cookie-cutter treatments. As a McGill Method certified practitioner, the assessment and rehabilitation strategies I use are based on the work of world-renowned spine expert Dr. Stuart McGill.

My approach is different. It’s not about temporary relief or quick fixes — it’s about long-term solutions. By identifying the specific strains that irritate your back and teaching you how to sit and perform your other daily tasks in ways that are safe for your spine, I help you overcome your back pain.

My goal for you as a desk worker is to help you understand your pain, take control of it, and get back to sitting and living without it.

If you’ve been told that you’ll just have to “live with it,” I want you to know: that’s not the only option.

The McGill Method

The McGill Method was developed by Dr. Stuart McGill, a world-renowned spine expert who spent over 30 years at the University of Waterloo researching back pain. This method has helped thousands of people find relief from their back pain, including many who found no relief with physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, or even surgery.

Ready to Move Forward?

If you are ready to finally get to the root of your back pain, I would love to work with you.
