Neck Pain

Do you suffer from neck pain, always rubbing it, stretching it this way or that way, or using medications to make it feel better? We can help.

Neck pain is the second most common complaint we treat at Flamborough Health Clinic. In fact, an estimated 70% of people will experience neck pain at some point in their life.

Common types of neck pain that we treat include:

  • Disc herniations/bulges
  • Pinched nerves
  • Cervical radiculopathy
  • Facet syndrome
  • Disc degeneration
  • Stenosis
  • Muscle pain/strains
  • Arthritis (osteoarthritis)

Understanding Pain Triggers

At Flamborough Health Clinic, we’ll show you what your pain trigger is and how to avoid aggravating your neck during your daily activities. Just as if you continuously hit your thumb with a hammer, it will never start to feel better, so if you maintain behaviours that irritate your neck, it will never have a chance to start feeling better.

We’ll educate you using spinesparing training (see McGill Method) and show you how to perform your daily activities to best avoid your pain trigger.

Neck Pain Treatments

At Flamborough Health Clinic, we’ll provide treatments that will decrease your pain and also show you what you can do yourself to relieve pain. We will show you postures or movements that you can use during your day to relieve your pain. If necessary, we may also provide you with some form of passive treatment, such as chiropractic adjustments, to help decrease your pain.

“Rebuilding” Your Neck

When you injure your neck, it can lead to a variety of changes including: 1) changes in spinal stiffness/stability, 2) changes in the communication between your body and your brain, and 3) changes in how your neck muscles are coordinated. To successfully alleviate pain and reduce the risk of reoccurrence, those changes need to be minimized or reversed.

We use a variety of exercises and treatments to address these changes in order to minimize or reverse them. The goal is to make your neck healthy and strong again.

A neck pain sufferer himself, Dr. Wilbrink has first-hand experience in how it affects your life and how it can be successfully managed.
